From Washington Post, March 12, 2008, Karin
Brulliard
As Prince William County, Virginia, proceeds with its
crackdown on illegal immigrants, one result is a shake-up and shrinking of the
area's entrenched Hispanic soccer leagues. The reason is simple, organizers
say: Players and fans, among them many illegal immigrants, are so worried about
being detained by authorities en route to or at games that they are avoiding
local fields. Legal immigrants are also wary, for themselves or their illegal
relatives, organizers say...(more).

Soccer Trivia
Answers |
1. The Galaxy played its first game ever on April
13, 1996. More than 69,000 people attended the Galaxys 2-1 win over the
MetroStars. Los Angeles won two more games by the same, slim score and then
beat D.C. United 3-1. Against San Jose the Galaxy won 2-1, followed by a 2-0
victory over Kansas City. Three straight one-goal victories drew even more
attention as L.A. finished its ninth game with a 9-0 record. The Galaxy beat
the MetroStars 4-0 for the 10th victory and then had to use a shootout for the
11th. By a 3-1 score L.A. beat Colorado at home on June 23 and then traveled to
Denver to meet Colorado a week later. There and then, in the Galaxys 13th
game, the steak ended with a 2-1 loss. The 12 straight victories is still an
MLS record.
2. The team was called the Clash for four seasons. It then
became the Earthquakes, using the name of the NASL team that had made the Bay
Area home years earlier.

Soccer Rule Questions -
Answers |
1. Handling the ball is the more serious offence. A
direct freekick is the correct award, or a penalty-kick if the offence took
place inside the offender's penalty-area.
2. A player cannot be off-side
from a goal-kick.
